Individual therapy in the Bay Area
Individual therapy is the most common format for my practice. This format is convenient and helps spread the cost of therapy out over time. Typically, clients meet with me weekly for anywhere between 45 to 90 minute sessions, depending on treatment needs, goals, time constraints, and preferences.
I offer both online and in-person sessions at this time. Some clients prefer to meet in-person weekly because they feel it:
Allows for greater depth
Fosters a stronger therapeutic connection
Creates healthy separation from home and work life
Ensures complete confidentiality
On the other hand, some clients prefer virtual sessions because they feel it:
Offers the greatest degree of flexibility and convenience
Reduces time spent traveling to and from my office
Fits into their current work or school schedule
Accommodates for any health or safety concerns
A hybrid approach is also popular, where clients choose to meet with me in-person for some sessions, and online for others.
The bottom line is that I am flexible and aim to meet your needs to the best of my ability.
For what it’s worth, research shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy, so at the end of the day it mostly comes down to your personal preferences and lifestyle.
What does individual therapy look like?
During an initial intake session, we will first spend anywhere between 10-15 minutes talking through the main “headlines” of your life as it relates to therapy (e.g., family history, current relationships, current stressors, significant traumas, medical concerns, etc.). From there, you will find that we are getting to the heart of your issues quickly (as quickly as you are comfortable with) so that we can make the best use of our time and share a healthy urgency about progressing our work together (in other words, a strong sense of commitment and momentum toward helping you heal).
As therapy continues to progress, I will be asking for your feedback and collaboration so that I can create a “custom therapy” for you, based on your unique needs, goals, trauma history, and personality. Therapy is, after all, more of an art than science and is in essence an abstract, creative process.
The best way to find out if we’re a good fit to work together is to book a free consultation where we’ll talk through your current issues and goals and I can answer any questions you have. I can help you determine which of my offerings is the best fit for you:
